The CWRCA emphasizes the safety features of windshields
The California Windshield Repair Contractors Association (CWRCA) has shared the critical role of windshields in the safety structure of a vehicle. As one of the Subject-Matter-Experts invited a student forum in San Diego, CWRCA President Jacob Taylor mentioned that the windshield is more than just an enclosure in the car, or a contraption to keep wind from blowing towards the passengers.
“The windscreen supports a lot of safety features of vehicles, especially during roll-overs and collisions. It works with the seat restraint system in preventing the passengers from getting thrown out of the car during a huge impact or collision, it also works hand in hand with the safety features as provided for during the deployment of an air bag,” explains Taylor.
Apart from enumerating the role of windshields in driving safety, Taylor also answered the questions of the students during the open forum. Most of the questions centered on driving safety and how they should deal with a chipped, cracked or broken windscreen.
“It is nice to talk directly to young drivers since you know that what you tell them will stick with them until they stop driving in their old age. So forums like this is crucial, because it helps mold the minds of the youth, and let them become aware of safe driving practices which will ultimately benefit everyone on the road,” Taylor explains.
The Auto Glass Safety Council through its website Safe Windshields have explained how windshields are vital in ensuring the safety of all the passengers of a vehicle.
“The windshield is an integral part of the safety restraint system in your car. It keeps the roof from crushing in on you in a rollover, it allows the airbags to deploy in the correct position to cushion passengers, and prevents you and your family from being ejected in a serious collision. It’s important to your family’s safety that the automotive glass in your vehicle be installed properly.”

South African motoring website Arrive Alive also emphasized the role of windshields in ensuring a safe vehicle ride.
“The Windscreen and Protection during Rollovers -- The windscreen also provides vertical support, preventing the car’s roof from crushing. During a rollover accident, a cracked or chipped windshield can allow the roof to cave in, causing potentially serious injury. Statistics overwhelmingly indicate the danger and increased risk to passengers in a rollover accident during which the roof crushes.”

The CWRCA says it is important that every car owner is aware of the safety features supported by a windshield so that they can immediately address any repair issue that may be prompted by a damaged windshield.
